The Roots

Aby Henry is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno, where she received her Bachelor of Arts.  She graduated with a major in Ceramics and a minor in Art History. Aby moved to Portland to start her own art/farming business with her sister Jen Henry in 2008.  Aby continued her work at Shop People in SE Portland starting in 2012.  She was the head of the ceramics department from 2014-2016.  Aby recently graduated the masters program at the Oregon College of Art and Craft (OCAC) with a Masters in Craft.

Last summer Aby was fortunate to participate at Watershed Center for the Ceramic Artsin in Newcastle, Maine. She was also a resident at Jingdezhen Private Studio in Jingdezhen, China.

She received two scholarships that allowed her to attend a workshop at Anderson Ranch in Colorado this summer with Trey Hill. She received a Windgate Fellowship to attend Vermont Studio Center for all of September.

Then in November Aby is heading to Medicine Hat in Canada to be a resident artist at Medalta until February.

She calls Portland, Oregon home. She lives there with a plethora of plants and an overabundance of books (if there is such a thing).

The product

Aby has been working with clay for the last 12 years. While she primarily works within abstract sculpture, Aby appreciates the meditative quality of throwing utilitarian wares on the wheel by hand. Everything on the site is hand thrown and trimmed by Aby herself right here in Portland, OR. Aby has called Portland home for the last 9 years and looks forward to many more years working in this amazing city.
